Student Spotlight: LeAnne Bugay

Friday, July 8, 2022 - 3:30pm

CoJMC junior LeAnne Bugay is finishing up her last week as a New Student Enrollment (NSE) leader at Nebraska. Last semester the advertising and public relations and journalism double major had a news and public relations internship with UNL’s newsroom Nebraska Today. While at Nebraska Today, Bugay covered on campus news, awards and research. She also got to spotlight UNL students, faculty and their passion projects. You can read her articles here.

At the start of her sophomore year, Bugay became a peer mentor at CoJMC and for Nebraska Honors. Her role as peer mentor was to help first-year students learn how to navigate college successfully, interact with fellow students and build meaningful relationships. Bugay enjoyed the work she did and the impact she left as a peer mentor, it’s what solidified her decision in applying for the NSE orientation leader role.

On campus, LeAnne is on the academics committee for her sorority Gamma Phi Beta. She’s on CoJMC’s Student Advisory Board and is a member of UNL’s chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Public Relations Students Society of America and the American Copy Editing Society.
