The Public Relations Society of America Foundation has named the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Club a Star Chapter for 2026.
The Star Chapter Award is considered the gold standard for college-level chapters striving to achieve excellence in public relations programming and service. A Chapter must be in good standing (have at least 10 members) and reach certain milestones to be eligible for the award.
One milestone is completing a community service project; last year, club members wrote letters and created graphics for Prescott Elementary School's PTO fundraising event. Another is attending a PRSA conference, and the UNL PRSSA executive team attended the ICON conference last fall in Washington, D.C.
For 2025-2026 UNL PRSSA Chapter President Cady Blackstock, receiving the Star Chapter Award is especially meaningful because the values behind the recognition mirror how the team strives to run UNL PRSSA.
“Our goal is to create a chapter where members can strengthen their connections professionally and socially while also building stronger relationships within the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, across UNL and throughout the Lincoln community,” Blackstock said. “This recognition reflects the work our members have put into making PRSSA a place for connection, growth and involvement, and I’m incredibly proud to see those efforts recognized on a national level.”
Throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, UNL PRSSA proved its commitment to the professional development of their members by inviting guest speakers to present on crisis management, ethics and industries like sports and entertainment.
“It’s great to see UNL PRSSA get recognition for all the work they’ve done over the years,” UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications Interim Dean Adam Wagler said. “This is an important student organization that’s driving the future of public relations, and I’m grateful to the student leaders and faculty advisor Betsy Emmons for their leadership and dedication.”
The UNL PRSSA chapter is always open to new members and meets on Thursdays throughout the fall semester. For more information, follow their Instagram here or email the leadership team at prssa@unl.edu.
