Geoff Exstrom, a senior studying Sports Media Communication and Broadcasting, recently released a podcast called Athletes Unfiltered with Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez.

The podcast is designed to bring fans behind the scenes of collegiate athletics.

“We think it's a great way to really connect and tell stories of athletes not only in the community of Lincoln, and many of the universities in Nebraska, but also nationwide with the connections that Adrian has made,” said Exstrom.

Martinez had the idea to start the podcast and contacted Professor John Shrader for recommendations on who could help him start the podcast. Shrader recommended Exstrom,  who was the Co-Sports Director at KRNU.

Exstrom has experience in sports broadcasting starting in high school when he was the play-by-play voice for the Kearney High Broadcasting Program in High School.

“[I] did two years of play-by-play, and the first time I ever did it, I knew within the first five minutes, that's what I wanted to do,” Exstrom said.

In November of his freshman year, Exstrom was hired as the Co-Sports Director for KRNU. He also writes for the Lincoln Journal Star sports department.

Exstrom took Professor Rick Alloway’s audio production class. The final project was to create a 15 minute feature story for Campus Voices. Exstrom’s feature won an Eric Sevareid Award for Best Talk/Public Affairs Student Radio Show”.

“I think that's really that was a really good experience that kind of helped improve my audio production skills,” Exstrom said.
