The College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has been selected as a partner institution for the FISU World University Games, which take place July 16-27, 2025 in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region of Germany. As a result, CoJMC will select one student to be an on-site reporter for the Games’ official website.
CoJMC will host a competition to determine who the college will nominate for the opportunity. FISU will then approve the selection, which will be fully funded by FISU.
To Enter: Interested students who are under 25 years of age and will be enrolled at CoJMC in Fall 2025 must notify Dr. Frauke Hachtmann (fhachtmann@unl.edu) or Dr. Jason Stamm (jstamm2@unl.edu) by Friday, Nov. 1. The contest will take place in two parts:
- Interested students will be assigned to cover one of the participating teams in the Lincoln Area High School Basketball Media Days, Nov. 12 and 14 hosted by CoJMC. You’ll be tasked with following your assigned team around, then gathering all information needed to write a 600-750-word feature story, with the topic of your choice, but centered on your team.
- You’ll follow your team to the basketball court, as you’ll cover your assigned team in one of its games during the first two weeks of the season. But this isn’t simply a game story. While you can have some play-by-play, your focus should be providing analysis and more in-depth coverage. This should be 500-600 words.
The deadline to submit your first story is Nov. 22, 2024, while the second story should be submitted by Dec. 9. Judging will take place thereafter, by three local, sports media writing professionals. A winner will be announced the week of Dec. 16-20.
