Recent faculty accomplishments: April 2021

The Nebraska Governance and Technology Center awarded supplemental research awarded to Assistant Professor Valerie Jones, for her project, "Public Insights Lab," and Assistant Professor Bryan Wang for his project, "Law and Policy Analysis of AI-Driven Health Technologies. Valerie Jones' research on using voice-assisted technology to reduce loneliness in senior citizens was also featured on KETV on March 26.

Professor Laurie Lee and Professor Maria Marron participated on panels at the 46th annual AEJMC Southeast Colloquium.  Lee participated on "Thunderdome 3: Prometheus v FCC" and Marron participated on  "That's Dr. Biden to You: Mentoring Female Scholars in the Age of Mediated Misogyny." Marron also gave a Wall Street Journal webinar presentation on using the Wall Street Journal as a teaching resource. 

Assistant Professor Chris Graves was selected to participate in the Poynter Institute's Diversity Across the Curriculum seminar in April 2021 and the University of Oregon's Solutions Journalism Educators Academy in June 2021. She was also interviewed on NET about using her experience covering George Floyd's murder and protests to teach journalism students how to cover social justice events and wrote an article, "After Guilty Plea, Jake Wagner Faces Life Without Parole and Without the Daughter He Killed For," published on the Cincinnati Public Radio website. 

The Public Relations Society of America published an article"4 Ways to Build a Solid Internal Communications Strategy," by Assistant Professor of Practice Monique Farmer in the April 2021 edition of Strategies & Tactics. 

A project in Professor of Practice Matt Waite's Sports Data Visualization course that teaches students to use machine learning to predict game-winners during March Madness was featured on KETV Omaha. 

Dean Shari Veil was selected for a prestigious fellowship with the National Strategic Research Institute. Veil also had an article, "Crisis narrative and the paradox of erasure: Making room for dialectic tension in a cancel culture," selected for publication in the September 2021 edition of Public Relations Review. 

Associate Professor John Shrader took first place in the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association's Eric Sevareid Award's Documentary/Special category for his entry, "Chris Schmidt Watch the Media Special."
