Assistant Professor of Practice Kelli Britten was named the American Advertising Federation (AAF) District 9 Faculty Advisor of the Year at the District 9 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC).

Britten led the team to a second place finish at the regional competition in Kansas City on April 22, 2022 with the help of her fellow faculty advisors, lecturers Rich Bailey and Diane Krajicek.

“The way Kelli engages students, sets high standards and then works closely with the team to deliver a campaign worthy of their talents is impressive,” Krajicek said. “The NSAC process is complex and time consuming and the fact that Kelli volunteered to step in this year with little notice says a lot about her dedication.”

The team of 16 was composed of students from three different colleges across campus– the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Junior advertising and public relations and graphic design dual major Ashleigh Kawaoka was a graphic designer on this year’s team. Kawaoka was grateful Britten saw and treated the team as professionals because it automatically set a high standard that the team worked tirelessly to reach.

“Kelli motivates a room full of students even at the most uninspiring moments; she brings together great teams that produce great work,” Kawaoka said. “The environment she created for the 2022 NSAC team was nothing short of a family and it only takes seconds of being around Kelli to see her as a role model.”
