Twelve Huskers enrolled in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications pre-session pop-up course “Covering the Iowa Caucuses in 2024” traveled to the 2024 Iowa Caucuses in January 2024.
The students made connections with multimedia journalists from various news organizations and used their journalism and broadcasting skills in real-time, producing a blog for the Nebraska News Service throughout the day. CoJMC faculty members Jill Martin and Matt Waite and Technical Director Jamie Wenz accompanied the students.
Sophomore broadcasting major Marissa Lindemann registered for the pop-up for the experiential learning aspect.
“I feel really lucky to be a part of a trip like this because it gives me a chance to be a part of history up-close in my home state,” Lindemann said. “This is real-world learning that I'll carry with me into my future career.”
Travel and expenses for the program was supported by gifts to the Student Experience Fund.
“I'm so proud to be a broadcast major in a college that prioritizes getting students out into the field for hands-on learning,” Lindemann said.
