Faculty, staff and students win March Awards

April 11, 2024

Assistant Professor of Practice Kaci Richter received the staff Not Too Shabby Award on April 5.

In March, we celebrated the achievements of our students, faculty and staff at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Shoun Hill was named the March Professor of the Month, Naomi Delkamiller was named the March Student of the Month, and Zac Franzen and Kaci Richter received the February Not Too Shabby Awards.

Hill joined CoJMC in the fall of 2021 as a visiting professor in photojournalism before transitioning to an assistant professor of practice in the fall of 2022. Before joining academia, Hill spent over 30 years as a photojournalist for regional and national news outlets, including 15 years with the Associate Press in New York. Hill received three nominations from Administrative Associate Tiffany Groteluschen, Director of Business and Operations Haley Hamel and Director of Advising Alisa Smith. In her nomination, Groteluschen praised Hill’s work on the annual Philip Perry Photojournalism Challenge.

Delkamiller is a senior advertising and public relations and journalism double major from Omaha. She was nominated by LeAnne Bugay, who said, "Naomi was selected as CoJMC's sole new member of Mortar Board! This is one of the highest honors at the university and is bestowed upon so few. She shows true dedication to scholarship, leadership, and service throughout her involvements on campus and in the community."

The CoJMC Student Advisory Board selects the professor and student of the month based on the kudos they received during the previous month. Professors receive an award plaque, and student winners can choose from three prizes: a college T-shirt, a Starbucks gift card, or lunch with CoJMC Dean Shari Veil.

The CoJMC Staff Council presents the Not Too Shabby Awards to faculty and staff members who go above and beyond the call of duty and have earned the appreciation of their peers.

Zac Franzen, alumni relations and event coordinator, received the March Staff Not Too Shabby Award. Franzen received four nominations from Career Development Specialist Natalie Becerra, Director of Advising Alisa Smith, Director of Operations Haley Hamel and Administrative Coordinator Tiffany Groteluschen. He was recognized for his work on several college events and his recent efforts to support staff development opportunities through the college.

Assistant Professor of Practice Kaci Richter received the March Faculty Not Too Shabby Award. Assistant Professors of Practice Jill Martin and Ken Fischer nominated Richter. They recognized her unwavering support of students and willingness to go the extra mile to support her colleagues.
