The Daily Nebraskan, the independent student news organization of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was named a finalist for two College Media Association Pinnacle Awards – Website of the Year and Best Special Section.

With a news operation completely ran by student journalists since 1901, DailyNebraskan.com earned more than 1.27 million pageviews and an average engagement time of 48 seconds per article during the 2023-24 school year. The DN has focused coverage of campus news, sports, culture and opinion, but also follows breaking news and special investigative topics. The DN also has a strong multimedia department with impactful photos and videos, as well as copyediting, social media and art teams.

“Our Health in Their Hands” is the special section named finalist. Published in Spring 2024, it is a special report focused on health care options for UNL students. Stories included mental health options, what their student fees pay for and other trending topics. Each year the DN staff focuses on a topic and releases it as a spring project.

The DN is one of three finalists for Best College Media Website and one of five finalists for Best Special Section.

The Pinnacle Awards are announced at the Fall National College Media Convention in New Orleans Oct. 30-Nov. 2.

The DN has been the voice of UNL students since 1901. Its revenue mostly comes from advertising and student fees, but also has an endowment fund that aims to pay student salaries in perpetuity.
