Saturday, January 22, 2022 - 6:00am

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Office of Graduate Studies awarded the College of Journalism and Mass Communications three fellowships and one travel grant to support the recruitment of outstanding graduate students.

The college received one Othmer Fellowship. Othmer Fellowships are intended to assist in recruiting exceptional scholars who are seeking a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D, D.M.A, M.F.A.).

The college received a Chancellor’s Fellowship, which is designed to assist departments with the recruitment of superior graduate students by adding fellowship funds to an assistantship. An assistantship is a paid student employment position, where the student receives a salary and tuition remission in exchange for their work supporting teaching or research at the University.

The college received three Edgren Fellowships. The Edgren Graduate Tuition Fellowship provides tuition remission for non-resident graduate students.

Lastly, the college received a recruitment grant aimed at helping defray the costs of recruiting graduate students

Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis in recognition of a student's demonstrated scholarship, scholastic and creative promise, and/or financial need. There is no service or work requirement associated with fellowship awards. A student holding a fellowship or a traineeship must be a full-time student during the period of appointment.
