CoJMC expands emergency support for students

Thanks to alumni and donors' generous contributions, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications expands emergency funding options for students.

Beginning on Aug. 17, 2020, students can apply for emergency funding for "life interruptions." These interruptions might include a car breaking down, a laptop repair or replacement or an unexpected medical bill.

"Something that would be considered an inconvenience to a working professional, like a flat tire or laptop crashing, can be insurmountable for students," said Shari Veil, Dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. "We don't ever want a few hundred dollars to stand between a student and academic success."

Emergency support is intended to help students who face unforeseen and unavoidable expenses that threaten their progress toward a degree. To apply, students must be an enrolled major in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, apply and provide evidence of their situation.

In addition to emergency support for life interruptions, students can apply for an emergency scholarship to help cover tuition and fees in times of need.

"Contributions from alumni and friends of the college are providing this emergency support," said Dean Veil. "We are tremendously grateful for their generosity and commitment to helping our students succeed."
