Each summer, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications offers housing awards to students who intern in rural Nebraska communities. This program supports journalism, broadcasting, and community-based internships in towns under 80,000, helping students gain experience and make an impact.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for a Rural Journalism Internship Program award, you must:
- Be a current College of Journalism and Mass Communications major
- Secure a summer internship in a Nebraska community with a population under 80,000
- Intern in journalism, broadcasting, community-based or nonprofit organizations
- Submit a formal offer letter with your application
What You’ll Receive
- A housing award to offset living expenses while you intern
- Award amounts vary based on funding availability and the number of applicants
- Funds are applied to your UNL student account and refunded to you if no balance is due
- Selection is competitive and reviewed by the CoJMC Scholarship Committee
- Please note: The college does not arrange housing. Students are responsible for securing their own accommodations.
