Meg Lauerman first joined the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Journalism and Mass Communications in 1976 as a visiting assistant professor, teaching broadcast journalism. After working in news, broadcast production, public relations, and communications, she returned to the college in 1998 to teach public relations and advertising before being named director of University Communications in 2001, a position she held until 2016.
As director of University Communications, Lauerman oversaw strategic marketing initiatives, news management, broadcast services, publications, photography, and events at UNL. She served on the chancellor’s staff and led campus organizations such as the Communications Council and Web Advisory Group. Prior to that, she served as special assistant to the chancellor for institutional marketing, where she implemented a campus-wide integrated marketing plan.
Since 2016, Lauerman has operated Lauerman Consulting, providing freelance communications consulting for clients including Doane University, Voices of Hope, the Nebraska Business Development Center, and Anniversary University. She has also presented on strategic communications to the Mandela Washington Fellows in 2021 and 2022.
Earlier in her career, she was a public affairs media specialist for State Farm Insurance, director of communications for Lincoln Public Schools, and a producer of television programs and documentaries for Nebraska Educational Television Network. She remains active as a consultant, is on the Fulbright Project Specialist roster, and is engaged in several community organizations.
