Jamie Wenz is the technical director for the University of Nebraska College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CoJMC), a role he has held since December 2021. In this position, Jamie oversees the operations of the college’s television studios and FCC-licensed radio station, 90.3 KRNU. His responsibilities include managing audio and video studio equipment and production processes, setting up and maintaining equipment for college programs, providing technical support, and collaborating with practicum directors and the operations director to plan and oversee future studio updates. Jamie also provides accurate equipment and maintenance costs, maintains a budget, and recommends new technologies for the facilities.
Before joining CoJMC, Jamie served as the station manager for the City of Lincoln from November 2013 to December 2021. In this role, he managed LNKTV, the city government, health, and education access channels. Before that, he worked at Time Warner Cable for over eight years, holding positions such as community programming manager and community access supervisor. He was responsible for overseeing local lifestyle programming and local sports production.
Jamie's career in broadcasting began at KOLN KGIN TV, where he worked from February 1996 to December 2005. During his tenure, he served as a videographer, chief videographer, and assignment editor. He also held various positions at Sears, Roebuck and Co., including human resource specialist, and worked as a videographer for KNOP TV from September 1987 to August 1990.
A native Nebraskan, Jamie grew up in North Platte and attended the University of Nebraska while working at KOLN-KGIN TV in Lincoln. His diverse background in broadcasting and technical management has made him an invaluable asset to CoJMC.
Outside of work, Jamie enjoys bicycling, camping, cooking, and traveling with his family. He and his wife Patti have two adult sons, Nathan and Zach, and two granddogs, Cleo and Chuck.
