Emmah M. Muema, Ed.D., is a distinguished researcher, administrator, program coordinator and instructor with a diverse background that bridges corporate banking, non-profit organizations and higher education. Her expertise lies in leadership studies, institutional effectiveness and program coordination, driven by a deep passion for social impact and development.

Muema earned her doctor of education in leadership studies from Bowling Green State University in 2020. She is pursuing a master of education in higher education and student affairs from the University of South Carolina, has a master of arts in communication studies from Daystar University in Kenya and a bachelor of science in business administration from United States International University.

Her professional journey includes serving as the associate director for international student support at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she focused on international student engagement, professional development, non-academic advising and global collaborations. She also gained valuable experience during her summer internship at the University of South Carolina’s education abroad office, where she was involved in program assessment, evaluation and student advising.

Muema has a robust background in banking, having held senior positions such as director of relationship and portfolio management at Bank of Africa-Kenya and acting executive director of corporate banking at the National Bank of Kenya. In these roles, she excelled in relationship management, deposit mobilization and international fundraising, showcasing her strategic planning and financial acumen.

In the non-profit sector, Muema has contributed significantly to the Midlands African Chamber in Omaha, Nebraska, as a program coordinator and grant writing consultant. Her efforts in grant writing have secured substantial funding for various community programs, reflecting her commitment to community empowerment and economic inclusion.

As an educator, Muema has taught at institutions like the City University of New York (CUNY) and Bowling Green State University. Her courses have ranged from public speaking to leadership and management, highlighting her versatility and dedication to fostering student growth and development.

Muema’s research interests are reflected in her scholarly publications and conference presentations. She has explored topics such as leadership effectiveness in Kenyan universities, quality in higher education and the experiences of international students. Her work has been published in reputable journals and she has presented at numerous international conferences.

In recognition of her contributions, Muema has received several awards and honors including the Nebraska Honorary Citizenship and various fellowships from the University of South Carolina. She is also an active member of professional organizations such as the American Educational Research Association and the African Studies Association.

Outside her professional life, Muema is deeply involved in community service and has held leadership roles in various educational and policy research organizations.
