Courtney Mattern is a part-time lecturer in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, bringing a wealth of professional experience in brand building, storytelling and creative leadership to the classroom. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and completed a master’s degree in integrated media communications in May 2024.

In her full-time role, Mattern serves as the senior director of brand and content at Buildertrend, where she leads the brand division, overseeing content, creative, events, public relations, social media, influencers and web marketing. Under her leadership, the company executed a global rebrand and expanded its digital presence through integrated storytelling strategies. She co-hosts “The Building Code” podcast, reaching thousands of listeners each month.

Previously, Mattern managed marketing communications for organizations such as Omaha Performing Arts, where she led storytelling initiatives and institutional branding, and the Omaha World-Herald, where she worked as a copy editor and designer. Her extensive experience also includes roles in content marketing management and public relations, with a focus on enhancing brand equity, digital media strategies and team development.
