Collin K. Berke is an accomplished media research analyst and adjunct instructor with a rich communication studies and media psychology background. He currently serves as a media research analyst at Nebraska Public Media, where he has been contributing since 2017. In this role, Collin utilizes data and media/marketing research methods to explore the most effective ways to reach and engage audiences, aiming to enrich lives and engage minds through public media content and services. His work emphasizes using and developing open-source statistical software to enhance media, digital, and marketing analytics.
In addition to his work at Nebraska Public Media, Collin is an adjunct instructor at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he teaches the SPMC 350: sports data analysis and visualization course. His academic interests are deeply rooted in media psychology and sports media, where he has published several academic journal articles.
Collin's professional journey includes significant roles at Texas Tech University. Since 2014, he has been the research lab manager for the Cognition and Emotion Lab, overseeing media lab data collection, analysis, and psychophysiological data collection, alongside administrative duties. From 2014 to 2017, he was a Ph.D. fellow at Texas Tech, where he also served as an instructor, teaching courses such as Principles of Advertising, advertising and Society (online), Mass Communication Theory & society, and Professional Communication. He was a key member of the Center for Communication Research, contributing to media lab data collection and psychophysiological data analysis.
Collin held multiple positions at The University of South Dakota earlier in his career. He served as the assistant public speaking course director and a graduate teaching assistant in speech and communication. His responsibilities included grading and providing feedback on students' speeches, instructing large classes, managing daily classroom interactions, and assisting in curriculum development. Additionally, he managed the communication, media psychology, and related effects lab (CoMMPARE), handling lab activities, data collection, analysis, and grant proposals.
Collin holds a Ph.D. in media and communication from Texas Tech University and a master of arts in communication studies from The University of South Dakota. He also earned a bachelor of science in education from The University of South Dakota, where he was actively involved in Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and served as the organization’s president.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Collin is a self-proclaimed news, sports and podcast enthusiast. He enjoys listening to NPR, watching PBS programs like NOVA, and indulging in college football and baseball. His dedication to academia and media research positions him as a valuable contributor to media psychology and sports media.
