Where did you transfer from, and what led you to consider a new college or major?

I transferred from Southeast Community College in Lincoln, and I was dead set on going to UNL. I did play-by-play commentary in high school and knew UNL would help me develop immensely.

What made you choose the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at UNL?

I wanted to go somewhere where I could develop myself as a broadcaster, and hearing about all the great staff and resources at the J school, I knew there was no place I’d rather be.

How did you navigate the transfer process, and what helped you feel supported along the way?

It was difficult because it was such a quick turnaround, but with support from UNL admissions and great advisors at the J school like Alisa Smith, I had no problem getting my schedule figured out and adjusting to a whole new school.

What opportunities at CoJMC—classes, student media, clubs, or internships—have made a difference in your experience here?

I’ve been able to broadcast a myriad of sports through KRNU, cover games with UNLimited sports, and receive relevant career advice from professors like Rick Alloway, Bill Doleman, and John Shrader. All of this enabled me to get internships with Sandhills Global, The Husker Radio Network with Playfly Sports, and produce Saltdogs baseball on KFOR.

How has transferring to CoJMC shaped your academic goals or career path?

I’ve felt more confident than ever in my abilities and have developed my skills to enable me to seek out new experiences wherever they present themselves. I didn’t know what I felt most comfortable and confident in until arriving at the CoJMC.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about transferring to UNL and the College of Journalism and Mass Communications?

Visit and talk to the instructors and really think about all the opportunities that you could get. The CoJMC is one-of-a-kind in the experiences you can get right away. It’s more than just an education; it’s life experience that’ll prepare you for anything, and the people here are more than willing to help guide you.
