This is Matteson's first semester as a Professional-in-Residence at Nebraska's College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Matteson will be helping with the UNLimited Sports Lab on Monday mornings, providing professional insight and advice with the class.
Matteson came to Nebraska directly after college in Missouri. KOLN-TV (10/11 News) was and is his first full-time job in the journalism world. At 10/11 News, he serves as a sports reporter and anchor covering all UNL sports teams, as well as the local high school sports scene. During his time at the station, the team has won numerous awards from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association, including most recently "TV Station of the Year."
Before he joined the team at 10/11 News, he worked part-time for over 3 years at KOMU 8 in Columbia, Missouri. KOMU 8 is the NBC Affiliate station for mid-Missouri. At KOMU 8, he worked primarily as a sports reporter and anchor; however, he spent 2 semesters in college serving as a general news reporter and photographer.
While in school, he had the opportunity to serve as the host and editor for the "Tiger Kickoff Show" - a football talk show covering Missouri Football. He helped the show transform into a bigger production that is continued on today. The show is filmed inside Missouri's J-School and has been featured and spotlighted by the Columbia Missourian as well as the University of Missouri.
Education
Matteson graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May of 2023. He earned a Bachelor of Journalism (B.J.) Degree with an emphasis in Broadcasting. He graduated from Missouri's Honors College and was a recognized as Magna Cum Laude. He also obtained a Business Minor from the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business at Mizzou.
While he calls the midwest his home now, he's originally from Dallas, Texas. He grew up playing various sports as well as acted throughout high school. His sports fandoms include: Mavericks, Patriots, Rangers, Stars, and the Missouri Tigers. He's a big foodie and always loves a good iced coffee. Matteson truly enjoys broadcasting and helping tell the stories of people through sports. He is excited to be helping advise future journalists this fall.
