Amie Just is a proud Lincoln Southeast alumna who returned to Lincoln in June 2022 to be the Lincoln Journal Star’s sports columnist.

Before moving back to her home state, Just spent four years in Louisiana covering LSU athletics and the New Orleans Saints as a beat reporter for the Times-Picayune. She began her sportswriting career at the Missoulian in Missoula, Montana, where she covered the University of Montana’s football team and high school sports.

While studying journalism and women and gender studies at KU, Just interned with the Associated Press, the Topeka Capital-Journal and the Washington Post. She also held various positions at the University Daily Kansan.

During her career, she has won multiple awards for news and sports reporting from the Pro Football Writers Association, Associated Press Sports Editors, Society for Features Journalism, Louisiana Press Association, Louisiana Sports Writers Association, and the Press Club of New Orleans.

Just is currently the vice president of membership for the Association for Women in Sports Media. She also serves on the voting committees for the Associated Press Top 25 College Football Poll, the Heisman Trophy and the Biletnikoff Award.

Just graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism with minors in creative writing and women and gender studies.

Just grew up on a farm near Funk, Nebraska, and moved to Lincoln ahead of her freshman year of high school. She attended Lincoln East before graduating from Lincoln Southeast in 2013. As a sophomore in 2011, she did her job shadow at KLKN-TV before realizing newspaper reporting was a better fit.

In her free time, Just loves to run with Fleet Feet and Telegraph Run Club, swim laps at her gym, practice yoga, and watch Futurama re-runs with her rescue cat, Calliope.
