The College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is proud to announce that Shari Veil, Jane T. Olson Dean, has been appointed to the prestigious Hearst Journalism Awards Steering Committee for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, often referred to as the “Pulitzer Prizes of College Journalism,” is recognized nationwide for its role in promoting excellence in journalism education.
The competitions are guided by the Hearst Journalism Awards Steering Committee, which consists of Journalism-Mass Communications administrators from ACEJMC-accredited universities across the country. These esteemed leaders provide critical insights and guidance, ensuring that the program stays at the forefront of the ever-evolving journalism field.
As a member of the Steering Committee, Dean Veil will play an integral role in advising the program on the latest developments in journalism education, contributing to the integration and evaluation of new practices, tools and thinking. The committee’s work is vital in preparing the next generation of journalists to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing media landscape.
The committee convenes twice a year during the ASJMC summer and winter conventions, bringing together some of the nation’s top journalism educators to discuss the future of the field.
