The college has launched a trial of the online AP stylebook in collaboration with the UNL Libraries. The concurrent license will allow faculty, staff and students to use the online AP stylebook by signing on through their libraries account. The license is open to anyone, but the number of concurrent users is limited.

This initiative is the result of a proposal by Jessica Fargen Walsh to move away from printed stylebooks. The printed AP stylebook is only issued every two years, however, updates to the stylebook are made much more frequently and only available to online users. As a result, those using printed books are almost always out of date.

Additionally, the university bookstore cannot provide access to the online style guide to students. Those students who rely on financial aid to cover the cost of books, must use the bookstore and, therefore, cannot take advantage of the online version. They must buy the printed version.

All faculty are asked to log on between now and the end of the semester. You can access the trial here. Please send any feedback on the service to the college’s technology committee (email haley@unl.edu).

The move to the online AP stylebook will provide equal access to all our students to this important resource. If the trial is successful, the online AP stylebook license will be available to all students beginning on Jan. 1 and the college will no longer provide printed stylebooks to faculty, staff or students.
