A project developed by UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications and College of Architecture faculty received a $59,860 award from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development to create an online role-playing tool to aid in disaster planning and response.
CoJMC Assistant Professor Ryan Tan, who is the lead PI for "Develop a Tabletop/Online Role-Playing Tool to Improve Public Engagement in Nebraska's Disaster Recovery and Community Resilience," collaborated with the following UNL faculty on the proposal:
- Cory Armstrong, Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs and Lawrence L. & Ruth E. Pike Professor, College of Journalism and Mass Communications
- Sharon Baldinelli, Assistant Professor of Practice, College of Journalism and Mass Communications
- Tian Li, Assistant Professor, College of Architecture
- Yunwoo Nam, Professor & Director of the Community and Regional Planning Program, College of Architecture
- Zhenghong Tang, Professor of Community & Regional Planning, College of Architecture
The group will officially begin working on a prototype of an interactive training simulation tool in August 2025. The tool will encourage resource sharing amongst students, community residents and elected officials during crisis events.
