Sophomore broadcasting, journalism and anthropology triple major Samantha Grove was awarded the George and Eva Grimes Memorial Competition $1,000 cash award to offset the cost of her international experience.

The George and Eva Grimes Memorial Competition tests students' ability to use written or visual storytelling to make a compelling case for the benefits of international experience. The competition is open to all CoJMC undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a University of Nebraska-Lincoln sponsored international experience. Students submit a 1,000-word essay or a thirty to sixty video that demonstrates how funds will support their international experience.

Grove is attending the UNL Faculty-Led: Ireland & UK: Negotiating Peace education abroad program this summer May 21 through June 11. She’ll travel throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland. The area is known for the Good Friday Agreement that ended a long-standing conflict in the region that eventually led to peace and stability.

During the trip, Grove will gain negotiation experience through practicing mock mediations, hearing from guest lecturers who have had first-hand experience in peace negotiations and from individuals affected by the conflict.
