Why did you choose to come to Nebraska and specifically the College of Journalism? : I grew up inspired to come to Nebraska after everyone in my family attended the University. I never knew what I specifically wanted to pursue as a major, but I knew I wanted to be able to express my creativity in whatever field I chose. The College of Journalism embraced students for their creativity and as an undecided freshman, I fell in love with all of the different opportunities that the College of Journalism offered for students. Everyone was so welcoming and the college seemed as though it was the perfect fit.
Who at Nebraska has helped you be successful? Is there a professor who has made a big impact on your education? : I have been so fortunate to have the chance to be able to learn from so many professors who have encouraged me to let my personality shine through all of the work that I do.
What classes are you taking this year? Any you're most excited for? : This year I will be taking a lot of classes that revolve around enhancing my creativity and classes focusing on my Leadership minor.
Describe your current job/internship. Are there any other internships you've had throughout your time at CoJMC? : Currently, I run my own photography business called Rhiannon B Photography. I started taking pictures of my friends and family at a very young age and now this hobby of mine has grown into a true passion that keeps me very busy. Through the Journalism college, I have learned many skills that have assisted me in my own business. In addition, I also am employed part-time in the fashion industry working at the Buckle.
Have you studied abroad—where, when, favorite city and memory? : I have never studied abroad, however, I love to travel! One of my favorite places that I have been to would be Hawaii! The island that we were on was so beautiful and so fun to photograph.
Are there any organizations you're involved in on or off campus? Any other hobbies? : I am involved in the sorority Delta Gamma on campus! I currently run the social media and am loving it!
Throw out a fun (maybe quirky) fact about you. : I am named after the song Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac and you can find pictures of me on the Buckle.com website!
Are you working on any special projects?: I just finished creating my photography website rhiannonbphotography.com!
Do you have any post graduation plans? If not don't stress—what would you like to do? : I currently don't have any post-graduation plans but am leaving the door wide open for future opportunities that continue to allow me to utilize my creativity and work alongside peers in an encouraging environment.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? : When I was little, I really wanted to be a fashion designer! I grew up thrifting and creating different outfits and clothing pieces from the clothes that I thrifted for others to love!
What has been your favorite class at CoJMC? What about one outside of CoJMC? : I have enjoyed every class that I've taken but one class that I really enjoyed at CoJMC was Copy and Concept with instructor Patti Harney! This class had so many hands-on projects and opportunities to work with different aspects of Advertising that made me appreciate my major even more. A class that I really loved outside of CoJMC was Beginning to Creative Writing with instructor Cameron Steele.
Fill in the blank: "The best thing about being a Husker is ___________________." : the amazing people that I have met and all of the opportunities that I have been given.
Advice for a new CoJMC student? : Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new!
