The college has purchased a concurrent license to the online AP Stylebook in collaboration with the UNL Libraries. The concurrent license will allow all faculty, staff and students to use the online AP Stylebook by signing on through their UNL Libraries account. The current license will allow anyone with a UNL Libraries account to access the AP stylebook. However, only 100 users are allowed to access the stylebook at the same time.

This initiative is the result of a proposal by Jessica Fargen Walsh to move away from printed stylebooks. The printed AP Stylebook is only issued every two years, however, updates to the stylebook are made much more frequently and only available to online users. As a result, those using printed books are almost always out of date.

Additionally, the university bookstore cannot provide access to the online style guide to students. Those students who rely on financial aid to cover the cost of books, must use the bookstore and, therefore, cannot take advantage of the online version. They must buy the printed version.

To access the AP Stylebook:

  • Go to UNL Libraries
  • Click on “Resources & Collections”
  • Click on “Databases”
  • Search for AP Stylebook
  • Select AP Stylebook and bookmark

The move to the online AP Stylebook will provide equal access to all our students to this important resource. Due to the availability of this new resource, the college will no longer purchase print editions of the stylebook for faculty or graduate assistants. Faculty are encouraged to provide instructions to access the stylebook to their students in their syllabuses and should not require students to purchase their own license or the print version.
