Emmy-nominated producer and creative director Dave Nuckolls ('90) has been telling stories for thirty-plus years. He kickstarted his career at Disney in live entertainment, then worked as a senior executive producer and creative director at CNN Worldwide. He's traveled around the world to direct Olympic ceremonies, the 150th Cinco De Mayo anniversary celebration, and most recently, the Oscars Red Carpet show for TikTok.
Nuckolls, who grew up in Fairbury, resides part-time in a downtown Lincoln condo near a very noisy manhole cover. This winter, after a friend pointed out the echoing sound, he decided to use his production skills to put together a video and upload it to the city's UPLNK app.
The video caught the attention of Lincoln city officials, who forwarded it to Lincoln Electric System, which owns and operates the manhole. Since watching the video, LES has installed measures to help prevent the noise and added a permanent fix to their work schedule.
Nuckolls says he can't take full credit for the fix because the homeowner's association president had also been talking with city officials about the manhole issue, among others. However, what Nuckolls learned during his time at the college still rings true--storytelling is a powerful tool.
