Natalie Saenz places third in the Hearst audio competition

Natalie Saenz placed third in the Hearst Journalism Awards audio news and features competition. Saenz is a senior journalism and broadcasting double major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications. There were 56 entries from 37 universities submitted to this competition.

Saenz will receive a $1,500 award. The college will also receive a matching grant.

Along with the other top five finishers, Saenz qualifies to compete in the championship final in June.

The audio competition judges are: Candy Altman, retired Vice President of News, Hearst Television, NY; Holly Quan, Reporter/Anchor, KCBS Radio, CA; Joe Rovitto, President, Clemensem & Rovitto LLC, PA.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program was founded in 1960 to provide support, encouragement and assistance to journalism education at the college and university level. The program awards scholarships to students for outstanding performance in college-level journalism, with matching grants to the students’ schools. The 61st annual program, offering up to $700,000 in awards, consists of five monthly writing competitions, two photojournalism competitions, one audio competition, two television competitions, and four multimedia competitions – with championship finals in all divisions.
