Senior advertising and public relations major Erica Napuli of Frisco, Texas, was awarded the Nebraska Increasing Diversity Scholarship from the Nebraska chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) during the 2024 Paper Anvil Awards on Dec. 5.
PRSA Nebraska distributes scholarships to students in the Public Relations Students Society of America Nebraska chapters each year to encourage members' learning and future public relations endeavors. Napuli is the second recipient of the Nebraska Increasing Diversity Scholarship.
"This recognition holds deep significance for me as a young Asian American woman who values diversity, representation and cultural understanding," Napuli said. "I'm proud to say that these values have also shaped my work in the classroom, and I'm so grateful to see that commitment recognized in this way."
This semester, Napuli joined the college's Public Relations Society of America club, is a public relations specialist for Jacht Agency and is the president of Delta Phi Lambda's Upsilon chapter. She's also the social media and communications intern at UNL Career Services, where she creates and drives content for their social media campaigns.
During her junior year, Napuli served as the president of the Asian Student Union, a peer mentor for CoJMC's first-year experience course and Delta Phi Lambda's external vice president and assistant affiliate member educator.
Last spring, her hard work was recognized by the Order of Omega honor society when she was inducted into the organization's Rho Epsilon Chapter and by the University, finishing the academic year with a 4.0 GPA and earning a spot on the Dean's List. Napuli has also been a member of the University Honors Program for all four years of her undergraduate career.
"Throughout my collegiate experience, I've committed to honoring my heritage through extracurricular involvement and building meaningful connections with my peers," Napuli said. "I know that these principles will continue to guide me as I transition into my professional career, where I aspire to make an impact in the advertising and public relations industry."
