Two Huskers placed in the national Hearst multimedia innovative journalism competition on March 11, 2025. The winners were selected from 39 entries from 27 schools submitted in the second multimedia competition of the year.

Angelina Pattavina, a senior journalism and English double major from Sidney took 15th place with "How journalists are bridging language gaps across Nebraska."

Pattavina's project is composed of three different stories that showcase Spanish-speaking coverage in news across Nebraska. Each story looks at how small towns get news to their Hispanic/Latino population, what reporting looks like in a bilingual format and how reporting on this population has evolved over the years in both English and Spanish.

Damon Bennett, a senior broadcasting and sports media and communication double major from Grand Island tied for 19th place with "2024 Nebraska Ballot Initiative Guide."

In the 2024 election, Nebraskans voted on six voter-petitioned ballot measures that could have a significant impact on the future of the state. In the video, Bennett discussed each measure is, and what a vote for or against each measure means.

The 65th annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program includes four writing, two photo, one audio, two television, one podcast and four multimedia competitions offering up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends.
