As the semester progresses, it is a good time to assess your academic progress and build a support system. Just as physical and mental well-being require attention, academic health plays a key role in success. Staying on top of assignments, attending class regularly and developing effective study habits can make a difference. If any of these areas need improvement, resources are available to help. Organizing coursework, improving time management and seeking support from instructors and campus services can provide the guidance needed to stay on track. Taking small steps now can lead to a strong finish to the semester.
Missing/late assignments?
- Organize your assignments in a way that allows you to see them easily and mark them off as you complete them
- Visit your instructor and talk through any questions you have about the missing/late work
- Meet with CAST coaches about time management, procrastination, or study strategies
- Talk to CAST tutors about subjects you’d like a little extra help with
- Complete your missing assignments and turn them in as soon as possible!
Missing/late to class?
- Visit your instructor and ask if there are extra credit opportunities for you to make up some points from missing class
- Do you need to submit a doctor’s note? Be sure to check the syllabus policies and talk to your instructor if needed
- Identify what is making you late or causing you to miss class. Can you leave home earlier? Can you study in the same building you have class in to cut down on travel time? Can you travel with a friend who is good at getting to places on time?
Need to study more?
- Set clear and specific goals about what you need to do. Try the Pomodoro Method, divide up the pages you need to read or the tasks you need to do and complete them in set increments of time. Ask a friend to help hold you accountable for getting things done.
- Find a focus spot. Take a friend to a study spot where you can motivate each other to study. If studying in your room isn’t working, try the library or a café. If studying alone is more your speed, try the UNL libraries or the Andersen Hall Lounge.
- Set up a study group
- Visit CAST tutors
- Visit CAST coaches or Sara Troupe, our CoJMC Academic Navigator, to talk about study strategies and better define your study goals
