Nebraska’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications will host a free Google News Initiative training session, in partnership with the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Swanson Auditorium.
The Google News initiative will cover digital tools for election coverage in broadcast and digital newsrooms, conferences and events. Learn to identify misinformation and disinformation and strengthen fact-checking and source verification skills.
The training will be led by lead trainer and CoJMC alum Mike Reilley (‘89). He’s also the lead trainer for the Online News Association’s Microsoft AI in Journalism training program.
Reilley is a senior lecturer at the University of Illinois-Chicago; founder of JournalistsToolbox.ai, a free website featuring AI tools and training videos and co-founder of Penny Press Digital LLC, a consulting and training company.
Reilley is one of the 11 founding editors of ChicagoTribune.com, a former web editor for the Tribune and a former reporter at the LA Times. For 13 years, he served as a faculty member at Northwestern, Arizona State University and DePaul University, teaching digital journalism to hundreds of students and professional journalists.
