Four CoJMC broadcasting and production students named NBS competition finalists

Thursday, February 18, 2021 - 1:00pm

Four Broadcasting Production students are finalists in the National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition, sponsored by the National Broadcasting Society (NBS). The awards will be announced Saturday, March 13th at the 79th annual NBS/AERho convention, a hybrid event that will be streamed online while taking place in Indianapolis.

All finalists will receive at least an honorable mention certificate and the highest grand prize winners will receive a trophy.

UNL’s National Broadcasting Society club has two finalists in the “Video Commercials” category: Hugh Anderson for Duncan Aviation and Keali’i Shetland for Private Internet Access.

In the category of “Audio Entertainment and/or Music Program,” UNL’s NBS chapter entered

The Belligerent Hero, an original radio drama. Jose Casarin was the writer and producer and Brian Bulin served as editor, foley and performer.

The Belligerent Hero is a comedy-fantasy-adventure story that enables the listener to follow along with the characters and plot without any knowledge of the game. The goal of this production was to create all of the foley and voice-over work in-house.

Other CoJMC students and club members involved in the production were Tabitha Lincoln, Alec Rome, and Angie Jasiak. The Belligerent Hero was the only submission in its category, earning an automatic grand prize. Listen to a 20 second teaser of the radio drama here.
