Firespring helps make student campaigns, senior capstones a success

The advertising and public relations Fall 2020 campaigns courses collaborated with account strategists at Firespring to complete senior capstones. It was the first time faculty members Valerie Jones and Adam Wagler had their students work with Lincoln based creatives to help complete company projects.

Students worked on health-centric projects for the following companies: Ventura Medstaff, LRS Healthcare, No Limits Nebraska and Nebraska Collegiate Consortium.

Ventura Medstaff provides quality health care staffing with the highest standards of performance and integrity. The campaign was to attract and recruit nurses and garner interest in becoming a traveling nurse. The students focused on creating lead gen. campaigns in order to spread a more general awareness about the brand.

The goal for LRS Healthcare was for students to generate a campaign to staff their clients with top industry talent that in turn helps professionals choose the right facility at which to work. This campaign was to attract and recruit nurses and garner interest in becoming a traveling nurse.

No Limits Nebraska is a youth-led movement that focuses on taking a stand against Big Tobacco. The organization has a theme but needed a general awareness campaign to get the word out about the negative effects of smoking and vaping. Additionally, they recruited students to become advocates in order to promote the themes that made up the campaign.

The Nebraska Collegiate Consortium (NCC) is made up of 27 institutions of higher education in Nebraska. This includes private and public colleges and universities, as well as, community colleges and proprietary colleges. Members use strategic and comprehensive environmental approaches to reduce high-risk drinking and the negative effects of excessive alcohol use. A campaign was needed to raise awareness of the mission and promote the use of data collected as part of the research produced by the NCC.

“I’ve been teaching this course for five years, and this was the first time I’ve worked with a client other than The College of Engineering.” Wagler said. “It’s been really cool because our clients were the account strategists and managers at Firespring, and the students got to contribute to projects they were already working on.”
