The Expanding Reach of Sports Broadcasting

Sunday, April 11, 2021 - 8:00am

CoJMC students are calling the action of softball and soccer this spring for the Huskers Sports Network in an arrangement with Learfield/IMG and the Athletic Department. The games are aired on 90.3 FM KRNU, and on the KRNU webstream, available at krnu.unl.edu.

The distinct voices of about three dozen men and women (nearly all students in CoJMC) have been heard on these broadcasts.

In addition, students have done about two dozen television streaming broadcasts on BTN+, for men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball and baseball.

In each of the last two seasons, students have broadcast Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) football games from Seacrest Field on the air and streaming on KRNU. They broadcast nearly 30 games in 2020.

The college expects to do even more sports broadcasting of the Huskers and high school sports in the coming months and years. A group of about 60 students have self-identified with an interest in sports broadcasting and every one of them will get a taste of the sports broadcasting business.
