College of Journalism and Mass Communications senior Noah Douglas, a journalism and sports media double major from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, won 10th place in the Associated Press Sports Editors student contest.

Contestants submitted three pieces of work to be judged by a panel of sports editors. In one of the pieces Douglas entered, "What it means to wear 42 – a Worthley family affair," he highlights Jackie Robinson's impact on future generations of black athletes through the eyes of brothers Jalen and Jeter Worthley.

In another entry, "'Do it for us': Norris finally solves Omaha Skutt to return to the top of Class B volleyball," Douglas covers Norris volleyball's historic Class B state championship that broke Omaha Skutt's nine-year winning streak.

In Douglas' third submission, "Above the rest: Keri Leimbach's impeccable résumé stands taller than her competitors," he interviews the incoming Husker volleyball libero/defensive specialist on the next stage of her journey as a Nebraska athlete.

"This is a great honor and I am humbled by the recognition," Douglas said. "As I enter my final semester at the CoJMC, I am eager to turn my recent experiences and successes into a rewarding career in sports communications."

Douglas thanked Amie Just, CoJMC professional-in-residence and Lincoln Journal Star sports columnist/features writer; Jason Stamm, CoJMC assistant professor and Nate Head, Lincoln Journal Star sports editor, for continuing to develop his skills as a communicator and writer.

Douglas is the second University of Nebraska-Lincoln student to place in the contest. Alumna and sports reporter for The Colorado Springs Gazette Marissa Kraus ('23) placed 9th in the 2023 contest.
