Dear Alumni and Friends,
I'm thrilled to share an extraordinary act of generosity by Cindy and Mick McCaffrey, who have made a $4 million gift to establish the McCaffrey Student Success Fund. This permanent endowment will support student workers across the college for generations to come. Their gift is a powerful investment in our students' education, well-being and future success.
I'm also excited to announce a $1.1 million investment from the Donald and Lorena Meier Foundation and Nebraska Broadcasters Association for the 90.3 KRNU studio renovation. Their support will help us modernize equipment and infrastructure at our student-run radio station, ensuring KRNU continues to launch the careers of Husker broadcasters for years to come.
Thanks to these transformational gifts—and the incredible generosity of more than 1,980 individual donors, including so many of you—we have officially surpassed our $14.7 million Comprehensive Campaign goal, two years ahead of schedule! Your continued support is more than a contribution; it’s a commitment to the future of journalism and mass communications. Together, we’re expanding access, advancing student success and fueling experiential learning, research and innovation.
And we need your help more than ever. If you have been considering a gift, now is the time. Please email me to schedule a time to meet in person or online. You can make a meaningful difference.
Our faculty continue to earn national recognition for their outstanding work. "Running Towards the Fire – A War Correspondent's Story," produced and directed by Gilbert and Martha Hitchcock Professor of Journalism Barney McCoy, won a prestigious Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
We also celebrate Assistant Professor Ryan Tan, who received nearly $60,000 from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development to develop a role-playing tool for disaster planning and response.
Congratulations to senior Noah Douglas, who earned 10th place in the Associated Press Sports Editors student contest, to the 376 students who earned their spot on the Dean's List and Dean's Commendation List this spring and to our July Huskers on the Move.
If you're in the San Francisco area on Aug. 8, I hope you'll join us for our Nebraska Reception at this year's AEJMC conference. And be sure to mark your calendars and RSVP for our annual Homecoming Celebration on Oct. 3 at Andersen Hall.
If you're a recent grad or early in your career, consider applying for the Nebraska Alumni Association's Young Alumni Academy or signing up for our Career Bulletin. Our support doesn't end at graduation—resume and cover letter reviews are always available to you.
Thank you for being part of our community. Your support, investment and engagement keep us moving forward.
Go Big Red!
