The College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is excited to announce that we are hiring peer mentors for the upcoming fall semester.

These positions play a crucial role in supporting the success of our incoming first-year students. As a peer mentor, you will be assigned to a section of JOMC 100, a foundational course taught by one of our dedicated academic advisors.

Peer mentors are essential in helping first-year CoJMC students acclimate to college life through a variety of activities. If you are passionate about sharing your experiences—both the triumphs and challenges—of your first year at UNL, this is a perfect opportunity for you.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing Guidance: Offer one-on-one support to your mentees throughout their first semester.
  • Availability: Be accessible for both in-class and out-of-class questions from your mentees.
  • Role Modeling: Demonstrate positive and mature behavior on campus as a role model.
  • Representation: Serve as a representative of UNL and the CoJMC.

By becoming a peer mentor, you will not only aid in the transition of new students but also enhance your own leadership and communication skills. This role is a rewarding way to give back to the CoJMC community and make a positive impact on the lives of first-year students.

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, so hurry and apply. We will hold interviews shortly after that.
