Senior advertising and public relations and broadcasting student Brenna Doherty designed the 2021 Virtual Perry Photojournalism Challenge graphics, the theme this year is “Mother Earth”. Doherty originally designed the graphics when she was a junior interning at University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s communications department as a digital content specialist.

Brent Bartels

Bartels places third in the BEA Festival of Media Arts

Brent Bartels placed third in the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts Student Sports Competition’s Radio Sports Story/Feature/News category on March 2, 2021, for his entry, “Jon Miller, Baseball Storyteller.” Bartels graduated with double majors in broadcasting and sports media and communication from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications in December 2020.

Four students chosen to be 2021 NSE orientation leaders

Four CoJMC majors—Victoria Baker, Jared DeHaan, Emma Krab and Alec Rome—were chosen to be 2021 New Student Enrollment (NSE) orientation leaders. The NSE team is responsible for providing incoming Huskers with programs, information and resources designed to acclimate students and parents to campus life.

2021-2022 Clifton strengths coaches announced

Two freshmen selected as new Clifton strengths coaches

Freshmen Naren Narasimhan and Niheala Ponnatha were chosen as Clifton strengths coaches for the 2021-2022 academic year. Narasimhan's majors are marketing and sports media and communication, and Ponnatha's majors are finance and journalism.

UNL students aim to teach people how to have productive, civil conversations

This year the UNL Bateman Team created a campaign called The Civility Effect to teach others how to have productive conversations about important topics. The team has been planning since October and had their first event at the UNL city union. With a $10,000 scholarship on the line, 20 students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications will compete in the Virtual Philip Perry Photojournalism Challenge from March 12-14.

Natalie Saenz places third in the Hearst audio competition

Natalie Saenz placed third in the Hearst Journalism Awards audio competition. Saenz is a senior journalism and broadcasting double major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications. A third-place finish qualifies her to participate in the championship finals in June.
