Six University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications students, one alum and Associate Professor John Shrader, took home awards from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association Eric Sevareid Awards Competition in April 2021.

The crew is composed of both new and returning student “Jachters” from diverse backgrounds and disciplines at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jacht provides students with real-world experience that extends beyond classroom instruction by giving students opportunities to work in a real advertising agency setting.

Bre TenHulzen wins top CoJMC presentation at Nebraska Research Days

Senior advertising and public relations major Bre TenHulzen began her university honors thesis project one year ago at the start of COVID-19 when she decided to research advertising during recessions throughout history and compare it to advertising patterns in the Covid-19 pandemic.

Five CoJMC majors named Chancellor’s Scholars

Five College of Journalism and Mass Communication majors were named Chancellor’s Scholars on March 26. To be named a Chancellor’s Scholar is the highest academic award the university offers to undergraduate students. These students have earned an A in every undergraduate class.

Story about the challenges of motherhood wins Perry Photojournalism Challenge

Luci Moran, a senior ADPR and journalism major from Omaha, won the top prize in the Philip Perry Photojournalism Challenge on March 14 for her essay titled, “The Nature of Motherhood.” Moran will receive a $10,000 scholarship to complete her studies at Nebraska.

Brenna Doherty Student Profile

Senior advertising and public relations and broadcasting student Brenna Doherty designed the 2021 Virtual Perry Photojournalism Challenge graphics, the theme this year is “Mother Earth”. Doherty originally designed the graphics when she was a junior interning at University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s communications department as a digital content specialist.

Bartels places third in the BEA Festival of Media Arts

Brent Bartels placed third in the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts Student Sports Competition’s Radio Sports Story/Feature/News category on March 2, 2021, for his entry, “Jon Miller, Baseball Storyteller.” Bartels graduated with double majors in broadcasting and sports media and communication from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications in December 2020.
