On May 4, the University of Nebraska held its annual Lavender Graduation ceremony to celebrate the achievements of graduating LGBTQA+ students on campus. Among the honorees were two students and one alum from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Anne Gallagher, a senior broadcasting major from Bellevue, and Joshua Schrader, a senior advertising and public relations major from Norfolk, were both presented with Lavender Graduation certificates to honor their accomplishments. These certificates recognize the contributions that LGBTQA+ students have made to the University of Nebraska community.

In addition, Nathan Hé, a 2018 graduate of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, received the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to the LGBTQA+ Community. Hé is an assistant director of alumni engagement with the Nebraska Alumni Association and was recognized for his exceptional work in promoting equality and inclusivity on campus.

“The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is proud to have such outstanding students and alumni who are committed to making a positive impact on their communities,” said Shari Veil, dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. “Their dedication to promoting equality and inclusivity inspires all of us, and we congratulate them on their well-deserved recognition.”

Lavender Graduation is a special ceremony that recognizes the accomplishments of LGBTQA+ students on campus. This year's event was hosted by the LGBTQA+ Center, the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Gender and Sexual Identities, the Pride Alumni Network and the Chancellor’s Office.
