Supporting KC, a team of sports media communication and advertising and public relations capstone students, is hosting a FIFA video game tournament on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 5-8 p.m.
The team collaborated with UNL's Sports Media Club to help raise brand awareness for their client Sporting KC and for their league, Major League Soccer (MLS). Sporting KC is a men's professional soccer club based in Kansas City, Missouri.
As part of their capstone class, the eight Supporting KC students were tasked with creating an activation event to spread brand awareness and introduce the MLS and Sporting KC club to Nebraska college students.
Partnering with the UNL Sports Media Club allows Supporting KC to reach avid sports fans in the UNL community and bring in new fans with their sizable social media presence and broad connections within the college.
“This is an exciting event that will bring people from all educational backgrounds in the university together to talk about an up-and-coming professional sports team less than three hours from Lincoln,” Supporting KC account executive Kieran Strawmier said. “We really want this event to be a place where people can compete against each other, have fun, and learn about Sporting KC.”
The event will feature multiple simultaneous FIFA games on PlayStation and Xbox systems. Additionally, there will be food, drinks, trivia and prizes, and the tournament winner will win free Sporting KC tickets.
