Huskers earn recognition in the Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln proudly announces that journalism student Clare Arter and professor John Shrader earned awards in the Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts on Feb. 16.  

Arter is a senior journalism major from Sterling. She earned second place in the student PSA, promo or commercial category for her entry, “Winter” People’s City Mission.

Shrader is an associate professor of broadcasting at the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communication. He earned an Award of Excellence in the faculty sports radio category for his entry, “A New Generation of American Soccer Broadcasting.”

The BEA Festival of Media Arts is the preeminent international media competition focused on student and faculty creative endeavors. In the last five years, over 6,000 student creative works were submitted from BEA’s more than 300 member institutions around the globe. Entries go through a blind-juried review in the following competitions: Audio, Documentary, Film & Video, Interactive Multimedia & Emerging Technologies, News, Scriptwriting and Sports.

“Congratulations to Clare Arter and John Shrader for their outstanding achievements in the Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts,” said Shari Veil, Jane T. Olson Dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. “Their success not only reflects their talent and dedication but also highlights the excellence of our journalism and broadcasting programs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.”
