Mia Azizah, an alumna of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, has earned a prestigious spot in the 2023 NextGen Global Leaders Network. This one-year program, sponsored by the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC), provides a unique platform for 70 talented young professionals from 25 states to explore innovative ways of promoting global development and diplomacy within their communities.

Having graduated from the CoJMC in 2020, Mia Azizah holds the position of assistant director of marketing for academic services & enrollment management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

As a participant in the program, Azizah will have the opportunity to attend a diverse array of virtual classes, covering vital topics such as advocacy training, media and communication development exercises, and even federal budgeting courses. Moreover, she will actively engage in advocacy meetings on Capitol Hill, master the art of writing impactful op-eds for local papers, and further enhance her digital platforms, reflecting her unwavering commitment to community engagement and global progress.

Notably, Azizah was present at the USGLC Global Impact Forum and State Leaders Capitol Hill Day, held from June 6 to 8 in Washington, D.C. During this event, she interacted with state leaders who are members of USGLC’s bipartisan coalition, striving to enlighten policymakers about the immense potential for global leadership opportunities.

Joining Mia Azizah in this transformative experience are fellow Nebraskans Caleb Fjone, the executive director of the Ashland Area Economic Development Corporation, and Melanie Petersen, a graduate student dedicated to the study of social work at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Their selection for the 2023 NextGen Global Leaders Network further exemplifies the exceptional talent present in Nebraska.

Upon completing the program, Mia Azizah, Caleb Fjone, and Melanie Petersen will be appointed to Nebraska’s USGLC Advisory Committee.
