KLKN Channel 8 hosted a final debate between District One competitors State Sen. Patty Pansing Brooks and Rep. Mike Flood at Andersen Hall the evening of Sunday, Oct. 3.

Since the debate was at Andersen Hall, a handful of College of Journalism and Mass Communications students were able to practice what they had been learning this semester in their Experience Lab programs.

Student broadcasters from Nebraska Nightly helped set up and produce the livestream on Channel 8 and student reporters from Nebraska News Service covered the debate and took photos throughout the evening.

Freshman journalism major Owen Reimer covered the debate for Nebraska News Service and got to interview the candidates in the media room following the debate. Read the article here.

Emma Krab, a senior journalism and English double major from Ogallala, introduced the candidates at the start of the debate.

“It’s not every day you get to watch a congressional debate live, let alone be the one on camera introducing the candidates,” Krab said. “The opportunities at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications are unmatched.”
