The Nebraska Broadcasters Association Foundation awarded three future Huskers $1,000 scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year on March 13.

The NBA scholarships are awarded to Nebraska high school seniors with plans to earn a broadcasting-related degree and aspire to work in broadcasting. Applications are reviewed by a panel of NBA board members.

All three recipients plan to enroll at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall of 2024. Mitchell Brandt, a senior at Kearney High School, plans to major in broadcasting and sports media and communication. Hudson Carrico, a senior at Papillion La Vista High School, plans to major in meteorology and minor in broadcasting. Tucker Knauss, a senior at Lexington High School, plans to major in electrical engineering.

“These students are the future. We’re proud to acknowledge and reward their interest in our industry,” said Shannon Booth, NBA board chairperson and vice president/general manager at Gray Media Group. “Supporting students through scholarships is one way we live out the NBA mission of building the next generation of broadcasters.”

The NBA Foundation also offers scholarships to assist students enrolled in radio or television broadcasting or broadcast journalism educational programs at designated colleges and universities in Nebraska. The NBA and NBA Foundation have awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships since 1977.

"We are thankful to the Nebraska Broadcasters Association members for their unwavering support of aspiring broadcasters in Nebraska," said Shari Veil, Jane T. Olson Dean of the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications. "They are shaping the future of broadcasting in Nebraska through their commitment to the next generation of media professionals."
