After serving more than 30 years as the editor and vice president of the Norfolk Daily News, Kent Warneke now serves as its editor emeritus, continuing to write editorials for the newspaper twice a week.

A native of Plainview, Neb., where his father published the hometown weekly newspaper, Kent graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1982.

He initially worked as a reporter, copy editor and editorial writer for The Omaha World-Herald for five years upon graduation from UNL before making the move to Norfolk.

He was inducted into the Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame in 2012, the Omaha Press Club Hall of Fame in 2019 and the Daily Nebraskan Hall of Fame in 2022. He received the Nebraska Press Association’s Master Editor-Publisher Award in 2019.

He is the co-author of a new nonfiction book titled "Saving Harlan Brandt" and published by Trilogy Publishing. He serves as vice chairman of the board of directors of the Nebraska Journalism Trust, which publishes the Flatwater Free Press, and also serves on the board of the Nebraska Community Foundation.

He and his wife, Susan, have two grown children.
