The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter reached its professional development goals and was named a Star Chapter. UNL PRSSA members have been recognized as a Star Chapter in 2014, 2016 and now once again for projects and programming completed in 2017.

A chapter must successfully complete eight out of the 10 requirements in order to be eligible for the Star Chapter Award. Some of the requirements include: conduct high school outreach sessions, initiate and complete at least one community service project, confirm attendance of at least one member at a National Conference, and 10 percent of graduating seniors must apply for PRSA Associate Membership. PRSSA members are excited to have met these requirements and continue to be recognized as a Star Chapter.

“I’m very proud of our chapter for working so hard to receive such a prestigious award,” Paige Stanard, UNL PRSSA, president said. “There are a lot of components that go into this award and it was really great seeing our chapter work together to accomplish that.”

UNL’s PRSSA chapter offers students a close look into the public relations field through speakers or mentors who are involved in the field, as well as other activities that prepare students for their careers. The chapter has positively influenced numerous members since it was established in 1998 and plans to continue this path in the future.

This year, UNL PRSSA plans to complete a wide range of semester projects that will boost members’ resume and offer real life experience within the industry. Meetings are every Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. for students looking to get involved.
