The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Journalism & Mass Communications National Student Advertising Competition team won second place at the District 9 regional competition in Kansas City April 15-16.

“This team’s campaign was excellent,” said Michael Goff, professor of practice. “University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s creative work was by far the best in the competition and the presentation was flawless.”

Goff and adjunct professor Rich Bailey led the team as faculty advisors.

“The competition was extremely close—almost a coin flip between the top two teams,” Goff said. “Rich and I are very proud of the work and the work ethic of this team.”

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln NSAC team has competed for 12 consecutive years and placed at the regional competition for the past eight years, with a first-place finish six times and advanced to the national competition. The team took first place in the nation in 2012.

This competition is sponsored by the American Advertising Federation, and District 9 is made up of colleges from Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa.

The college chapters were tasked with putting together a comprehensive advertising campaign that included creative executions, media placement, public relations, special events and other promotional tools for this year’s client, Snapple.

The campaign looked to grow household penetration for the Snapple brand. The campaign included a print campaign, three TV spots and a mobile game.
