The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications received 16 awards at the Nebraska Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Paper Anvil Awards Gala last week.
University of Nebraska–Lincoln won Student Best of Show, eight Awards of Excellence and seven Awards of Merit. The work represented in-class capstone projects and projects from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter.
“We are so proud of what our students and faculty have accomplished,” Associate Dean and ADPR sequence head Frauke Hachtmann said. “The competition is unique in that all of the student entries had to have been implemented in the community and measured in terms of effectiveness. We strongly emphasize real-life learning experiences in the advertising and public relations curriculum from day one, culminating in fully integrated campaigns experiences inside and outside the classroom. We are especially proud of the immense success of our Bateman teams as this was the first time University of Nebraska–Lincoln participated in the competition.”
Four CoJMC student groups were represented at the gala: the University of Nebraska–Lincoln PRSSA chapter, University of Nebraska–Lincoln Jacht Ad Lab and University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s two Bateman competition teams, one of which received honorable mention at the PRSA Bateman competition, earning a top-16 spot.
University of Nebraska–Lincoln PRSSA received six Awards of Merit for its work on a campaign for the Arbor Day Foundation’s Rainforest Rescue coffee, “Coffee with a Cause,” its mentorship program and chapter promotions.
University of Nebraska–Lincoln Jacht Ad Lab, CoJMC’s student-run advertising agency, received three Awards of Excellence for its work on the Pinnacle Bank Arena Green Arena campaign, the social media campaign for the 2015 Nebraska Shrine Bowl and its branding campaign for STEC CAP, which is now being implemented on several college campuses nationwide.
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Bateman Competition teams worked on a campaign for Home Matters®, a movement to help “every American live in a safe, nurturing environment with access to quality education, healthcare, public spaces and community services” and NeighborWorks Lincoln, an organization that works to make Lincoln a prosperous community by revitalizing neighborhoods.
One team’s campaign was “Open the Door to Your Home” and the other “Neighbors Matter: Helping Immigrants Become Homeowners.” “Open the Door to Your Home” won Student Best of Show.
